The Best Time for Beach Photos in Sarasota

Short answer: The best time for beach photos in Sarasota is the last hour before sunset, or the first hour after sunrise. The light is soft and warm, nobody squints, and the white sand glows instead of blinding everyone.

Golden hour vs. midday

Florida's midday sun comes from almost straight overhead. It casts dark shadows under eyes, makes everyone squint, and turns Siesta Key's white quartz sand into a giant reflector. Early morning and late evening light comes in low and soft, and everyone looks better in it.

Evening is the classic choice: warm color, a glowing sky, and sunset silhouettes on the west-facing Gulf beaches. Morning is the hidden gem: the beach is nearly empty, the air is cooler (a big deal in summer), and little kids are usually at their happiest.

Best season for family beach photos

October through May brings comfortable temperatures, lower humidity and fewer storms. February through April is peak tourist season, so weekend sunsets book up fast. June through September is hot and stormy in the afternoons, but evening skies after a storm can be spectacular, and sunrise sessions are cool and calm.

What about rain?

Summer storms usually pop up mid-afternoon and clear out by evening. I make the weather call at least 2 hours before your session. If rain, drizzle or lightning is expected, we reschedule for free.

When I'm available

Weekday sessions start at 5 PM, which lines up with golden hour from about March through October. Weekends are open all day, so sunrise sessions work year-round. Friday–Sunday sunset slots (5–9 PM) are the most requested of the week. See prices and open dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is golden hour in Sarasota?

Roughly the hour before sunset and the hour after sunrise. In summer, that's about 7:15–8:25 PM. In December, it's about 4:45–5:40 PM.

Is sunrise or sunset better for beach photos?

Both have beautiful light. Sunset gives warmer color and glowing skies over the Gulf. Sunrise means empty beaches, cooler temperatures and happier toddlers.

What's the best month for family photos in Sarasota?

October through May for comfortable weather, with April, May and October as standouts. Book early for February–April weekends.

What happens if it rains?

I watch the forecast and make the call at least 2 hours before your session. If rain, drizzle or lightning is expected, I'll text you, and we'll reschedule to any open time for free, with your deposit carried over. Cloudy skies on their own aren't a reason to reschedule, since overcast light is soft and flattering.
