How Much Do Family Photos Cost in Sarasota?

Real, published prices from local beach photographers, plus what to ask before you book.

Short answer: For one family and about an hour on the beach, Sarasota photographers publish prices from $445 to $750, and most land around $500. A family hour with me is $350 for up to five people ($450 for a Friday–Sunday sunset), with 25+ hand-picked edited photos delivered within 24 hours.

Families ask me what's normal before they book, so I looked up what other photographers on the same beaches charge. Every number below comes from that photographer's own website, checked on October 12, 2026. Prices change, so treat this as a snapshot and confirm with the photographer before booking.

The biggest difference: when you get your photos

Prices are fairly close. Turnaround isn't. Published delivery times run from a few days to three weeks. If you're here on vacation, a gallery that shows up weeks after you fly home misses the moment you actually want to share it. I deliver every edited gallery within 24 hours, usually before you've checked out.

What changes the price

Time on the beach

Most local packages run 35 minutes to an hour. Shorter "mini" sessions cost less up front but give you fewer setups and photos.

Number of edited photos

Published counts run from about 35 to 150. Bigger numbers aren't always better: a gallery of 150 often includes near-duplicates you'll scroll past. I deliver 25+ hand-picked, fully edited photos from a family hour, your best frames rather than every frame, and bigger groups get more.

Group size

Big groups take longer and need more combinations. Some photographers move you into a higher tier, and others add a per-person fee. With me, the hour covers five people, each extra person is $60, and you get more photos as the group grows.

Time of day

Weekend sunsets are the most requested slots. With me, only Friday–Sunday sunsets (5–9 PM) cost more (+$100). Weekday evenings and weekends before 5 PM are the regular price.

Travel

Many photographers charge to drive out to Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key or Venice. I'm based in Lakewood Ranch: anywhere within about 30 minutes is included, and farther beaches are $30–$70 depending on the drive. See the full travel list.

Big families: what 12 people costs

Published prices for a group of about 12 people include $550 at Shore Shooters (11–19 people), $565 at Siesta Key Beach Portraits, $650 for an extended family at Ember & Earth, $775 at Mason James (11–15 people) and $850 for an extended family at Jaeger Haus. With me, 12 people for an hour is $770 on a weekday or weekend morning, with 39+ hand-picked edited photos and the gallery the next day. That's mid-range on price, with the fastest turnaround on the list.

Minis

Mini sessions are a budget-friendly option for small families. Mason James publishes a 30-minute petite session at $495 with 20 images. My minis run on Siesta Key: $200 for 15 minutes (10+ photos) and $270 for 30 minutes (15+ photos). More about minis.

Deposits and cancellations

Retainers range from $50 to $150, and they're often non-refundable. With me, you pay a 50% deposit when you book online. It's fully refunded if you cancel 7 or more days ahead, and rescheduling is free up to 72 hours before. The rest is due after the session.

Questions to ask any photographer

  1. How many edited photos are included, and is that number guaranteed?
  2. When will we get the gallery?
  3. How many people does the price cover, and what does each extra person cost?
  4. Is there a fee for sunset, weekends or holidays?
  5. Is travel to our beach included?
  6. How much is the deposit, and when is it refundable?
  7. Can we download full-resolution files and print them anywhere?
  8. What's our total, with every fee, before we pay anything?
