Before you go: permits and rules
Public beaches are generally fine for small family and couples sessions. Some parks, gardens and museums charge entry or require a permit for professional photography, so check before planning a shoot there. When you book with me, I'll handle that research and suggest the easiest option.
Best time of day
Early morning or the last hour or two before sunset. Read the full best-time guide for sunset times by month.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most photogenic beach in Sarasota?
Siesta Key is the classic, with powder-white sand and wide sunsets. Lido Beach is a quieter alternative, and Caspersen Beach in Venice is best for a wild, driftwood look.
Do I need a permit to take photos at Sarasota beaches?
Small family and couples sessions on public beaches generally don't. Some parks, gardens and museums charge entry or require a permit for professional photography, so check first.
Where can we take photos in Sarasota that isn't a beach?
St. Armands Circle, the bayfront and downtown Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch Main Street, Robinson Preserve and Myakka River State Park.
What happens if it rains?
I watch the forecast and make the call at least 2 hours before your session. If rain, drizzle or lightning is expected, I'll text you, and we'll reschedule to any open time for free, with your deposit carried over. Cloudy skies on their own aren't a reason to reschedule, since overcast light is soft and flattering.
